The Lauri is the remotest gewog under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag. It share border with Arunachal Pradesh state of India in East, Merak gewog of Trashigang Dzongkha in North and Serthig gwog in South. The altitude lies at the ranges of 1800-2600 masl and it has total area of 273.4sq.km. The gewog has five chiwogs with 545 household consisting total populations around 4601 with 2270 male and 2331 female. The gewog has two numbers of grade II BHU, three primary schools, one RNR-EC and community information centre. The gewog has ten numbers of community Lhakhangs and five private Lhakhangs.The gewog is connected with 64 km of Gewog connectivity road via Serthig gewog from Jomotsangkha Dungkhag.
The maize is the most important staple crop and other cereal crops like paddy, upland paddy, millets, buckwheat, and some vegetable are cultivated as source of living. The source of income derives from sale of non-wood forest product like Cherata (Khalu) , Rubbia (Laneru), Satuwa(thoksampa) and Lezhe.
