10 March 2025

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) organized a Legal Advocacy Program at the Dzongkhag Tshogdu Conference Hall to enhance legal awareness and understanding of key legal processes to the offices in Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag.

The program commenced with the arrival and registration of participants, followed by the recitation of His Majesty’s Zhabten. Dasho Dzongda delivered the welcome remarks, emphasizing the importance of legal literacy in ensuring justice and good governance. The Attorney General then officially opened the session, highlighting the role of the OAG in upholding the rule of law.

The first session focused on the structure and mandates of the Office of the Attorney General. The discussion covered constitutional and statutory roles, division-wise mandates, and common legal issues, accompanied by a short institutional video.

Following this, a session on Property and Judgment Enforcement, addressing its mandates, legal processes, and associated challenges was conducted.

After a short health break, the program resumed with an insightful session on Law on Marriage. The session covered critical aspects such as types of alimony, calculation of alimony during divorce, and the assessment of net income in such cases.

The final session focused on Notary Services, led by Drangpon Rabjam and Tshering Pelden, who elaborated on the functions and services provided under notary laws.

The program provided a platform for participants to engage with legal experts, ask questions, and clarify doubts. It concluded with discussions aimed at strengthening legal service delivery and fostering a better understanding of the justice system.

The OAG plans to conduct similar advocacy programs in other regions to ensure that legal awareness reaches a broader audience, ultimately contributing to a more informed and legally empowered society.
