Dewathang Primary School was established in 1962. The school is in Dewathang Thromdey under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag. It is located below Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic and is approximately 2.5 kilometers away from the highway leading to Trashigang. The school boasts of an area of 6 acres and 33 decimals .Ms Sonam Choden was the first Principal to administer the school which was initially started as a primary school. It got upgraded to a lower secondary in 2003 and to a middle secondary school in 2005. In 2008, the school got downgraded back to Primary School. Coincidentally, Mr. Ngawang Thinley joined the school as the Principal in the same year. The school inculcates wholesome development of its children. GNH Values and Life Skills are an integral part of the curricular and co-curricular activities which are held as per the school calendar. Mindfulness is practiced during the morning assembly, evening prayer and in between academic sessions. The school has an infrastructure of 8 blocks of which two are used as residence. Technology such as internet, facsimile and telephone has made the school accessible to the outside world. At present, there are 25 teachers including the Principal, Vice Principal and 6 contract teachers. As of March 2014, the School has the strength of 786 students -369 boys and 417 girls .
