Brief Background of the Gewog

Martshalla gewog has 23 villages with 621 households. They are clubbed into six Chiwogs. The total area of the gewog is 308.49 sq.Km and it shares the boundary with Kangpara gewog under T/Gang Dzongkhag and Lauri Gewog to the North. To the East, Martshalla Gewog has the common boundary with Serthi Gewog. Pemathang Gewog, Phuentshothang Gewog and Samrang Gewog boarders the south. To the West Wangphu Gewog delimits our Gewog. The altitude of the gewog ranges from 650 m to2700m above sea level. The maximum temperature during summer is 35 degree celcus, while minimum temperature during winter is 15 degree celcus. The villages are comprised of varies size scattered in far-flung places with very few people living together, which has been one of the most difficult problems in bringing developmental activities. The gewog has total population of 5011 as of 2022. It falls under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag and Samdrup Choling Drungkhag. It is connected with 13km road from Tsangchuthama.

The gewog is located in the sloppy area under Sub-tropical type forest/ warm broad leaved forest. The annual rainfall measured is 1500mm annually. The soil is dominantly sandy loam type, which allows the people to practice double cropping, mixed cropping, and crop rotation for organic farming. Agriculture land use is generally devoted to dry land and wet land cultivation. With the infrastructural development penetrating further into the villages in recent time has encouraged farmers to shift from subsistence to commercial farming and living standard of people has enhanced.

Brief Background:

Tsa Sum Ter Sar Gonpa lhakhang is located in Thongpashing village under Tshotsalo chiwog under Samdrupjongkhar Dzongkhag. It was built in 1979 by community of Thongpashing and Tshozin of the lhakhang.

The main Nangten of the lhakhang comprises the statues of

Brief Background:

The lhakhang was built by Lt. Lama Tsedar in the year 1978 as a private lhakhang at Dingshingzor under Keptang chiwog. Later the lama handed over the lhakhang to the public as a community lhakhang and minor renovation was carried out in the year 1990.

At present the lhakhang’s outer structure is marked with numerous cracks and renovation work has to be started. Thus, the community has unanimously decided to relocate the lhakhang with allocated budget from RGoB for the FY 2017-18.

Currently the public has started to construct a lhakhang.

Currently 15 households of Dingshingzor village are performing Yarngo-Marngo in the lhakhang.

The main Nangten is:

Tempa.

Brief Background:

Samtenling lhakhang was constructed by the community of Keptang village in the year 1995 and in recent time there was a need for renovation and gewog did provide fund to renovate the lhakhang. However, with unresolved dispute between the public and lama over the ownership of lhakhang the lhakhang is currently left out.
